Korea 2010

What you see in this picture represents nearly everything the Lord has done the past 10 years. Timothy and Rachel (far right 2nd and 3rd row) were young students when we first came to Korea in 2002. We would to gather in our apartment and Carlene would make her best Italian spaghetti with garlic smells that permeated the school. These young students would gather in a circle eat spaghetti (break from kimchee) and we would talk about listening to God...and we laughed a lot. We spoke words of encouragement and blessing over them. It has been 8 years since we have seen many of them and they all gathered together for a reunion last Saturday afternoon. Some of these students wrote out their  prophetic promises, put them in beautiful frames and hung them on the wall!
That is why you see such a big smile on my face. This is one of my all-time favorite pictures because of the promise Carlene and I would be part of the training of this youth worship army in these last days.
It has been my privilege to encourage and strengthen thousands of believers in Korea and these students have passionately pursued Jesus and all he has for them
Thank you for praying and sharing with me and this joy!
I am finishing this tour with a 2 day  "Listening to God" seminar and returning to Portland Thursday...YEA!

(some missed the pics from last Mokpo email..see below)

Just finished 4 days in Mokpo, a city on the southwest coast of Korea and  centuries-old key origin of Korean song, dance, literature and art. The city is marked by what is called the Mokpo Song which celebrates despair, hopelessness, and pain.  Indeed, I toured several local museums depicting decades of Japanese occupation. Even their official dance costume and crown are black. (see below) But I believe this is all good news; because where there once was a people walking in darkness....a Light has come.

My sense is that people here have a prophetic destiny and promise as a resource center where there worship of all forms flourish.  Pastor Lee and his wife have a wonderful vision of 24 hour prayer and a conviction this city is a worship and art offering to the Lord.  I AGREE!

October Worship at the River

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, 10.  10.  10. (September 10, 2010) hundreds of people gathered in downtown Portland Oregon as well as in various churches, home groups, and other venues.  We gathered for three simple but profound reasons: Worship, Thanksgiving, and Repentance.  Many believers all over the world sense a distinctive change in the spiritual atmosphere as the Church is beginning to recognize how important we are to Jesus and to each other.

Recently the Washington Post published an article about a man at a Metro station in Washington DC who began to play the violin on a cold January morning.  He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes, and thousands of people, most of them on the way to work passed him by.  A few stopped to pay attention, most notably a three-year-old boy but the mother hurried him along.  In 45 minutes, the violinist collected $32 and when he finished playing no one noticed, no one applauded, neither was there any recognition.  No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell one of the best musicians in the world and he played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth $3.5 million.  You may watch the three minute video of this performance in the subway here.

The last six years we have gathered at a subway...errr,  in Troutdale once a month to worship.  It is our intent to recognize the beauty and the richness each believer brings as a worship offering to our meeting... we want to recognize the Joshua Bell's.  Last month at the conclusion of our meeting, Janice asked if she could share a poem she had written during the worship time:

JESUS...MY JESUS... I GIVE YOU THE PRAISE
AS I WALK WITH YOU--I BASK IN YOUR WAYS
I DO NOT NEED A LAMP TO SEE...
YOU ARE MY PURE GLORY..
IN YOU I SEE THAT BRILLIANT LIGHT
YOU HAVE BECOME MY EARTHLY SIGHT,
COUNSELOR...YOU BRING ME UNDER YOUR WING
MEISTRO...YOU PROMPT THE SONGS THAT I SING.
REDEEMER, YOU CLEANSE THIS RAGGED SOUL
JESUS..SO MIGHTY TO BEHOLD
I AM THE WHALE...YOU ARE TO ME   (NOTE added by connie: A WHALE CARRIES GOD'S PRESENCE)
KEEP ME TEACHABLE IN THEE
LION OF JUDAH..UNBLEMISHED LAMB
LORD OF LORDS..THE GREAT I AM
LIVING WATER...QUENCH MY THIRST
ABOVE ALL..I PLACE YOU FIRST
I PROMISE I WILL FINISH THIS RACE
I WILL STEADFASTLY KEEP THE FAITH
NOW  I CRAVE WHAT TOMORROW WILL BRING
AND SOON I'LL BE HOME...AT HOME WITH MY KING.

That is a Joshua Bell performance.

We will see all of you Joshua Bell's this Wednesday a the River!

Citywide Prayer Event - Praying 4 Portland

Save the date! Sunday Morning 10.10.10

Portland is ready for REVIVAL!

Join with Portland area churches to pray for the city of Portland in unity!

Meet us at Pioneer Courthouse Square before 7:00 a.m.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

THE PLAN: Each church may choose the location where they feel led to pray, or meet us at Pioneer Courthouse Square. We will meet at our designated locations by 6:50 am on Sunday morning. Promptly at 7:00 am, in unity, we will sing and pray over the city for one hour with a prayer text.

VISION: To see Portland area Christians join together to pray and seek God's face, to honor Him, repent of our sin, and usher in the long anticipated revival and end-times harvest.

HISTORY: Several members of Restoration Gateway Ministries went to Houston, Texas, in September of 2009, to give a conference at a Love in Action Church. The last day of their trip, they were invited to participate in Houston Loves Prayer, a citywide prayer event including over 4,000 churches and well over 10,000 Christians who circled the city and bathed it in prayer and song. The results were miraculous. Reports were received of spontaneous salvations, people leaving bars and getting on their knees in repentance before almighty God. One of the team members said, "I feel like the Lord is asking us to bring this concept to the northwest!"

If you or your church would like to participate, please email the planning committee at info@praying4portland.org.
